Rhinoplasty revision

Revision Rhinoplasty is any additional surgery required to fix a badly executed procedure, correct some irregularity in a previous operation or cover scars and other surgical marks left by an earlier rhinoplasty full report.

The most important factors that guide revision rhinoplasty include:

1. What the nose looks like now
2. What is it that needs to be addressed/repaired
3. Scarring after previous surgery
4. The patient’s mental state, such as whether he/she is an unsatisfiable perfectionist, a surgery-addict, or otherwise unbalanced, which is leading to an unjustifiable request for revisions.
5. Is it possible to correct the problem?

If all these factors are in place, then the patient who was not satisfied with their previous rhinoplasty may request a revision rhinoplasty either from the same surgeon that performed the original rhinoplasty, or another surgeon who specializes on revision rhinoplasty. Asking pertinent questions to a surgeon who is specialized in revision rhinoplasty will help you find one who has the necessary training. Although it is rare that the nose will be beyond repair, you should analyze why the patient wants to undergo multiple surgeries.

According to statistics, in the United States, 17 percent of the primary rhinoplasty operations require revision rhinoplasty. In a high percentage of cases a very minor bump or irregularity is the reason for the revision rhinoplasty. For the most part these procedures are performed in the office and cost a minimal fee. The rare cases that require extensive revision rhinoplasty are those where something has gone wrong. Most of the “clean up” cases that remain are due to patients who have caused damage to their noses after surgery.

Even though it is a rare occurrence, after rhinoplasty some patients find that their nose has become too small to fit their face. They claim that this was not their fault but rather their own desire for change. In such situations, revisionary surgery can be performed to add tissue, widen the nostrils and stretch the cartilage. The nose will then better fit the patient’s face. It is possible to fix, repair or improve almost any condition of the nasal. Patients may also request revision rhinoplasty if they wish to achieve a particular “look” with their new nose. The patient brings in a picture of a famous person or historical figure, and requests a nose exactly like the one on the photograph. They demand that they look exactly like the celebrity, even if the computer image does not support the desired look. Many times, the final results do not look good and patients seek out a qualified revision rhinoplastic surgery to make their nose “normal”, that is to say, restore it to its original state. As strange as it may sound, patients often receive the exact result they desired and then decide to change their minds.
